Description of the Work
The drawing reveals Dalí’s graphic mastery and his interest in the transfigured human figure. In the center of the scene, a female figure from behind is wrapped in thick drapery that enhances her dynamic twist. Opposite her, a seated or kneeling man is rendered with a more fragmented and nervous, almost skeletal line, his arms raised in a theatrical gesture of supplication or adoration.
The use of chiaroscuro is skillful: Dalí uses bold, overlapping strokes to create volume and a sense of psychological agitation. In the background, a few features hint at a classical architectural structure, a recurring element that anchors the scene in a timeless, metaphysical dimension. The master’s unmistakable signature, accompanied by the date 1963, seals the work, created at a time when the artist was intensely exploring mysticism and the great themes of art history.
