The work is a perfect example of Alinari’s dream world, where the Tuscan landscape is transfigured into a psychedelic fairy tale. The composition is dominated by a stylized house and a bicycle in the foreground, symbols of the everyday merging with the unreal.

The hills lose their geological rigidity to become clouds of color in saturated hues: fuchsia, bright orange and electric blue. The skillful use of mixed media creates vibrant, almost tactile surfaces, where perspective follows not the laws of physics, but those of emotion. It is a reassuringly labyrinthine “elsewhere,” an invitation to fantastic travel typical of his post-modern poetics.

Alinari was famous for his experimentation: he often mixed industrial paints with classical techniques, achieving that sheen and depth effect you see in the “balloon” areas of the sky and tree canopies.
