Description of the Work

Petru Vintilă’s work transports the viewer to the heart of Romanian folklore, depicting a choral scene immersed in a snowy landscape. A stylized yellow ox stands out in the center of the composition, adorned with a traditional red carpet with geometric patterns and a cowbell around its neck. The animal is surrounded by a multitude of human figures dressed in typical winter clothing, carrying buckets, fruit baskets and containers on their heads, suggesting a propitiatory rite or village festival.

The style is typical ofnaïve art: proportions are unrealistic, faces have simplified expressions but charged with humanity, and perspective is flattened to emphasize the narrative. The color palette plays on the contrast between the snow-white of the snow and the bright colors of the clothes and the ox, creating a magical, suspended atmosphere. It is a celebration of community life and the resilience of peasant traditions in the face of the harshness of winter.
