Description of the Work

Emilio Vedova’s work is an explosion of gestural energy that perfectly embodies the poetics of theInformal. The composition does not try to represent real objects, but focuses on the strength of the sign and color contrast. Broad brushstrokes of black ink dominate, spread in a rapid, instinctive movement that creates a dense, dramatic texture in the center of the sheet.

This deep black is overlaid with scratchy green lines, probably drawn with oil pastels or greasy chalk. This interweaving creates a visual tension between the depth of the shadows and the acid brightness of the greenery, resulting in a pictorial space that appears to be in perpetual collision. The artist’s gesture is violent and liberating: paper is not just a support, but the field of an emotional battle where the sign becomes a direct expression of contemporary man’s unease and vitality. The artist’s autograph signature is visible in the center, on the lower margin, barely emerging from the tangle of marks.
